b) We often hear people saying their weight in kilograms, eg. my weight is 50 kg. However, we know that the SI unit for mass is actually kilogram (kg). Why is there a difference?

b) Mass is a scalar quantity while weight is a vector quantity. Mass is the amount of matter in a body while weight is the amount of force acting on a certain mass due to gravity.



Our weight on the moon is lower than our weight on earth as Moon has a lower gravitational force. But, our mass will remain the same on both Earth and Moon.
