Chapter 4 - Mass, Weight and Density

A beaker of 250 cm3 is fully filled with oil (density = 0.9 g/cm3). The total weight of the filled beaker is 3 N. (Take g = 10 N/kg)

a) Calculate the mass of the oil in the beaker.

b) Calculate the mass of the empty beaker.

Answer:

a) Density = Mass/ volume

    0.9 = m / 250

    m = 225g

b) mass of beaker + oil = 3N / 10 N/kg

                                        = 0.3 kg

    mass of empty beaker = 0.3 *1000g - 225

                                           = 75g
